Argentine Tango
Argentine Tango was born in the late 1800's in Buenos Aires, and has been changing and evolving ever since. It is a beautiful dance form that provides endless opportunity for improvisation and playfulness.
July-August Series (7/6 - 8/31 2010): Beginning and Advanced Turns
Progressive series with Leslie Gordon
Everyone will learn to lead and follow.
Traditionally,
we run an intensivo for intermediate+ students in the summer to really
understand and master a type of movement. This year we will include an
intensivo for the beginner as well as the intermediate students. The
beginner hour will also serve as a warm up for the second class.
7:00-8:00 Fundamentals Intensivo- Turns and Other Basics:
Have you always wanted to try tango, but never had the time, or
maybe you have some experience, but would like to try the other role,
or just work on the fundamentals to help your more advanced mores? This
class will work on those tango fundamentals, teaching you how to
survive on the dance floor and have fun doing it.
Everything in tango is built on walking, ochos and turns. In July and August, we will build up turns from ochos, master the basic
techniques, and understand how to combine them with walking and ochos.
Gain the confidence to have fun with these basic steps. We will also be covering details for the experienced dancers.
8:00-9:00 Fundamentals- Practica
Stay for the practice led by some of the advanced
students. We will review the material from the first class, and other tango basics.
8:00-9:00 Intermediate-Advanced Intensivo- Cadenas:
We will be taking turns to the next level. After cleaning up the problems in the fundamental class, we will be looking at the intermediate and advanced turns, and focusing on cadenas (chains). These are flashy progressive turns that take you around the room. They encourage moving between your partner's legs and often incorporate gauchos, high kicks and sacadas. We will learn them in both open and close embrace.
